Effective Dig Defense: How Nuisance Wildlife Control Protects Your Porch from Burrowing Animals

When nuisance wildlife takes up residence under porches, decks, or sheds, it can lead to structural damage, health hazards, and ongoing infestations. At Nuisance Wildlife Control, we specialize in humane and effective exclusion methods to keep unwanted critters out for good. One of the best strategies we use is dig defense, a proven barrier system that prevents animals from burrowing under structures.

Our Dig Defense Process

Step 1: This porch is in need of some dig defense! The porch is not flush with the ground, therefor animals are able to access and use under your porch which can lead to a variety of issues.

Step 2: Once we have identified the entry point we can start to correct the structural mistake. To first fix the mistake we will dig up some terrain to make room for the metal to cover the access point.

Step 3: Once we have made room for the metal we will start securing it to the structure. The metal will be angled so that if the animals do try to dig back under they wont only hit the metal Infront of them but also under them.

Step 4: Once we have covered the targeted area we will start to fill the hole back up with the dirt we have previously dug out.

Step 5: Once we have back filled the hole we will thoroughly pack the dirt down. Once the dirt is packed down we will put pavement stones on top of the area for more defense against any nuisances. Leaving the structure still eye appealing but sealed to any wildlife.

Why Dig Defense Works

Our dig defense system is a long-term, non-toxic, and humane solution for keeping wildlife out from under porches and other structures. Unlike temporary fixes such as filling holes with dirt, this method permanently blocks access while allowing proper ventilation and drainage.

Additional Wildlife Prevention Tips

  • Seal all entry points around your home to prevent other infestations.

  • Remove food sources, such as pet food or unsecured garbage, to make your property less attractive.

  • Trim vegetation near your porch to reduce hiding spots for animals.
